What are the signs of a damaged or faulty liquid dewar cylinder?

Date:2023-06-02
Liquid dewar cylinder is a specialized container used for storing and transporting cryogenic liquids, such as liquid nitrogen or liquid helium. To identify signs of a damaged or faulty liquid dewar cylinder, consider the following indicators:
Physical damage: Inspect the cylinder for any visible signs of physical damage, such as dents, cracks, or bulges. These can compromise the integrity of the cylinder and indicate potential leakage risks.
Frost or condensation: Observe the exterior surface of the dewar cylinder. Excessive frost or condensation on the cylinder's outer surface, particularly in areas not normally prone to condensation, can indicate a loss of vacuum insulation or a potential leak.
Vacuum loss: A properly functioning liquid dewar cylinder is designed to maintain a vacuum between its inner and outer walls to minimize heat transfer. If the vacuum seal is compromised, you may notice a significant reduction in the duration for which the cryogenic liquid remains in its liquid state.
Leakage or hissing sounds: If you hear hissing sounds or detect the smell of the cryogenic liquid, it could indicate a leak in the dewar cylinder. Leaks pose safety risks due to the extreme cold temperatures of cryogenic liquids, so exercise caution and follow proper safety protocols if you suspect a leak.
Temperature fluctuations: Keep track of the temperature of the cryogenic liquid inside the dewar cylinder. Unexplained temperature fluctuations, such as rapid warming or unexpected freezing, may be indicative of a faulty cylinder.
Pressure irregularities: Some dewar cylinders have pressure gauges or relief valves. If the pressure gauge readings are abnormal or the relief valve frequently releases pressure, it suggests a potential issue with the cylinder.
If you notice any of these signs or suspect that a liquid dewar cylinder is damaged or faulty, it is crucial to follow safety procedures, evacuate the area if necessary, and contact a qualified professional for assistance.

Welded insulated liquid dewar cylinder

Dewar cylinders are ultra-vacuum insulated stainless steel pressure vessels designed for storage, transportation and use of liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen, liquid argon or carbon dioxide.
The DPL series containers are vacuum insulated, stainless steel containers designed to store and transport cryogenic liquid oxygen, nitrogen or argon. Containers may be used for over the road transportation of cryogenic fluids, as well as on-site storage and supply in a wide range of applications.
As rugged, long holding time, self-contained gas supply systems, these cylinders are capable of providing contonuous flow rates of up to 350cfh(9.2 cu.m/h)with a delivery pressure of approxomately 100psig (6.9bar/690 kpa)
The DPL Series containers are very rugged liquid cylinders. All cryogenic liquid cylinderd have an inner container and an outer container with an insulated vacuum space between them. Any abuse(dents, dropping, tip-over,etc) can affect the integrity of containers insulation system.
